Chapter II

King Leonardh was taking a look at the bright sky. He was drinking a coffee while walking outside the palace with few servants accompanying him. Frigid successfully got the other piece of the portal key. Blue sighted the king and she lowered Frigid near him. King Leonardh stopped from walking and gratefully greeted the arrival of the two. There were some carvings in the key and surprisingly no one of them can read it. The markings were not clear. King Leonardh inspected the broken half of the key. He felt assured that they can only know if it was a message or a symbol when they will also bring to him the other half. King Leonardh went inside the palace and ordered to bring the piece in the keep. King Leonardh earned trust from Frigid so he offered a place in the palace where Frigid can stay for a while. Frigid accepted the king’s offer and responded a lot of thanks. King Leonardh decided to put Frigid in a room near the library. “Due to your success of retrieving although only the first of the two pieces, I greatly appreciate the deed. But please take note; as long as the other piece is not in my possession, you should never leave. And the only place where you should stay is the room that I have given and there should be no other place that’s if you are in Lone Debris so I have an eye over you. You are the first strangers that have entered this world and I think Arnies Clives have a lot of questions for you to answer. I’ll just let him take you to your room. And I have also a lot of questions to ask. You can come to the throne table and eat with my son,” King Leonardh offered. “As the first time strangers as I have known, I am curious for some things. Do not forget to have dinner with me and my son when you will hear the bell rang.” King Leonardh called Arnies Clives on a microphone, “Calling the presence of Arnies Clives, I need you to go in the palace gardens and accompany our visitor from Earth to his room near the library.”

Mr. Clives swiftly went to the garden running. “Please take notice; I greatly appreciate people with great speed to respond. If you need food, ask Clives,” King Leonardh told Frigid. King Leonardh went to his room and rested. “My name is Arnies Clives,” he presented his self. “And my name is Frigid,” Frigid replied. “I am surprised; did the king mention you came from another world when he called me? He stated earth?” Mr. Clives was curious, “Please forgive my curiosity but I formerly won the Prestigious Asker award 15 years ago. You can ask me what is about this honour.” Frigid did not say anything. “Then I just have to tell what it is then, even if you do not like to hear it, or even if you want. Just let me speak and you listen.” Frigid nodded his head. “Please follow my lead to your room,” Arnies started walking while telling Frigid about his award. “If you do not know, In Lone Debris, a competition of asking is held every year. Through this contest of asking, the audience and the people of Lone Debris can know who the most relevant Questioneer is, as we call the contestants asking problematic but challenging questions in a poetic manner. But that’s not the reason why I was given the chance to work in the King’s palace. I earned a diploma in Administrative Supervising. That’s why I am called the King’s Supervisor. I supervise public relations. Do you have any other questions? You can ask me. If you do not know about me, I am also a journalist. I wrote everything about the king on the daily newspaper, Star Gazer.” “Unfortunately, I am much exhausted after acquiring the piece of a portal key, so I am not in the right mood as of now,” Frigid explained. “So I have to get back to your room then after you get your rest and I will have to ask questions when you wake up. Is that fair enough?” Arnies asked Frigid. Frigid nodded.

Arnies was about to exit the room when Frigid shout at him. “Wait!” Arnies turned back. “Will give me permission to roam around the palace?” asked Frigid. “I am not the king who can answer yes,” said Arnies, “But if you will not bring trouble then you can freely walk around. Do not tell the king that I let you if otherwise. Do you understand?” “Yes, I definitely understand,” Frigid answered “Can I request for some bread?” Frigid asked. “Coming right away!” Arnies closed the door. Frigid looked at the clock, it was 12 o’clock and slept. Arnies left his food on a table near his bed. Frigid woke up. He was surprised someone was looking over him. “Who are you?” he asked. A fat and dwarf creature spoke to him. “I am Nelvi, I was sent by the king to watch you,” Nelvi said. Frigid nodded. Frigid gazed at the clock; it was 2:30 in the afternoon. “By the way, Mr. Clives sent me this letter for you.” Nelvi handed over the letter of Arnies to Frigid. “Mr. Clives said that the letter is to inform you of his several questions that you need to answer.” Frigid opened and read the letter. “To Frigid, meet me in the library at exactly four in the afternoon…” Frigid reads the letter of Arnies. “Are you hungry, there’s food on your table,” Nelvi pointed. “Since you are new and you look dirty as I can see, you probably have no clothes brought with you so the king decided you to have these.” Nelvi opened the closet filled with dresses. “The king thought that you are as tall as his fat son and as I also look, but you are a bit thinner as I can see. Take a look and have a good fit. You need to clean yourself and wear some decent looking clothes. There’s a bathroom over there, open the door beside your bed.” Frigid walked to the door and opened it. He paused for a while. “Do you need anything else?” asked Nelvi. “I’m fine,” Frigid answered and he bathed. After bathing Frigid went out the bathroom and was surprised Nelvi is still inside his room. “Is that the sexual organ of an earth form?” Nelvi asked. “Why are you still here?” Frigid asked. “The king ordered me to…” “Okay, may I know what you are called?” Frigid asked. “I am a Debrinian dwarf,” answered Nelvi, “And I am your valet.” Frigid got dressed. “Do you have to follow me wherever I go?” Frigid asked. “If the king ordered me so,” answered Nelvi. “Better,” Frigid commented, “Are you a male or a female? I am just curious.” “Do you mean a lya or a bya?” asked Nelvi. “I am a male and my opposite is called a female.” “I am a lya and I think we are similar,” Nelvi assumed. “May be,” told Frigid.

Frigid roamed around the palace with Nelvi. “You need to be familiar of this place and so I will tour you my self,” Nelvi said, “As you may all ready know, that corridor to your left is leading to the library.” Frigid was amazed of the intricately designed walls while passing a corridor composed of various colored gemstones. Rubies formed flower patterns and Emeralds as the leaves. Sapphire and Aquamarine on the blue squares and other gemstones placed in a random manner. There were hanged paintings and sculptures on the walls. The ceilings have numerous chandeliers. Gigantic vases are filled with wild flowers. The carpet made of wool was colored in blue and red. “Take note; as long as you see a carpet, you will never get lost, just follow the line and you will come across an important room in no time,” told Nelvi and stopped over. “You might have crossed this wide area before when you were going to your room. This is the most center part of the whole palace interior. See that huge and wide glasses above? Those are soda-lime glasses. And they are everywhere especially placed near the ceilings, windows, doors, anywhere where there is a great view of the sky, the mountain, the nearside river, the garden, the courtyard, and numerously others. I love the hallway going to the king’s throne. Its walls are made of mirrors. And they are not just ordinary mirrors. They can imitate every door, wall, window and the whole palace interior excluding the ceilings. The mirrors actually behave like that to protect the palace from suspected thieves and strangers. The mirror also changes themes according to season and occasion. For example today, as you can see, there are really no windows.” Nelvi paused and pointed on the walls. “Those flying butterflies and that various colored flowers growing outside this window, and the sky above are not real. Go ahead, touch the wall. Take your hand outside the window.” Nelvi and Frigid approached the wall. Frigid slowly lifted his right arm out of the window. A monarch landed on his finger. He slowly moved the butterfly closer to his eyes. The monarch sparkled and disappeared. Everything you see outside that window are not real, the only real thing on that wall are magical mirrors that can change appearance.” Frigid was amazed. “There are various other rooms in between these mirrors. Straight ahead again is the throne room. You will come across a stairway before reaching the throne room. The corridor to the right is to the great hall, the location of the throne table where guests and the king’s family dine and the kitchen. The rooms of the royal family are all around the doors of the walls of the throne room. The passageway below the kitchen connects to the rooms of the servants. Other working Debrians sleep in special rooms called saccharine rooms. Sounds too sweet but these rooms are the second best rooms after the rooms of the royal family. You were placed by the king on one of the guest rooms. I sleep on one of the saccharine rooms but as of this moment, the king ordered me to sleep in your room. The king requested to place to beds inside your room, one for you and one for me. The courtyard is reachable from one of the corridors of the mirrors, from the first floor of the library and the kitchen.”

Nelvi escorted Frigid to the garden outside the palace. “And that’s the whole of it,” said Nelvi, “There are other inaccessible places but unfortunately, you are not allowed to enter.” Frigid saw a clock tower. Nelvi raised his head, “The time tells it’s nearly four o’clock, we better head to the library.” Nelvi and Frigid traced back to the library. “Welcome,” the librarian greeted them. “This is Miss Grane Renest, the librarian. If you are a reader, you can always ask her.” Nelvi turned to Miss Renest, “Is Mr. Clives here?” “Yes he is, just follow the stair to the second floor and you should find him,” Miss Renest answered. A fat Debrian was rushing down and accidentally bashed Frigid as they were walking on the stair. The fat Debrian halted, frowned, stared on Frigid for a while and continued running down. Frigid scowled. “That’s the son of the king, Prince Sycar,” told Nelvi. “Be patient of his attitude. He is the only son of the king and with the most unpleasant character. He actually tried to cut one of my ears while I was sleeping. He ran off when I was awoken by my phoenix.” Did you tell the king about that?” asked Frigid. “I did not,” answered Nelvi. If I will tell the king, then I might be punished.” “He deserves the punishment, not you,” Frigid opposed. “He is the son of the king,” Nelvi said. “Were you two talking about Prince Sycar?” Arnies appeared. “Nevermind, please take seat.” Frigid and Nelvi sat down. “Actually, every Derbrian wants to know the person who entered the portal. They are quite interested about you. They want to know your name, your age; they want to know everything about you!” Frigid was flattered. “So, as a journalist, I want to write an article about you. I want you to appear in the newspaper. If you permit me,” told Arnies. “Okay, I will be delighted,” Frigid said.
