The Ghost Ship of Higante Island

In Higante, residents could hear the siren of a ship sailing in middle of the night but without a view in sight of a distant ship. People would often tell many stories about their encounter with the ghost ship boarding the caves. They claim that located in the islands’ mystical caves is a magical world you can only visit when you’re asleep and the famed ship resides there. A native once told that while he was fishing near the island, he glimpsed a city-like image with brilliant dancing lights on the darkness of the night but on the blink of his eye – it was but all darkness that he can see. More fishermen agreed so having experienced the same thing.

Once in a scene of a setting sun, a woman was caught sitting on huge lumps of rocks facing the sea near her home in Bancal when she heard the sound of a ship sailing. “Did you hear that?” she asked her little brother. “What?” her brother asked back. “A ship,” she said. “I don’t hear any thing,” her brother replied. After sometime, her brother left her and she was alone. The siren sounded again. The sound went louder and louder as if a ship is next to her. The deafening sound made her cover her ears. Swiftly she ran to their house and locked her room. The sound faded off. She was extremely terrified. She never dared to tell about the experience to her family. There’s nothing to be scared of, she thought to herself. She’s only having delusions. “My anklet?!” she exclaimed, “Oh no! I might have dropped it.” She traced back to the rock lumps to find her anklet but it was gone. Her anklet was a gift from a suitor.

The moon replaced the sun and she slept. Sunlight rayed on her window and she woke up. Her eyes brightened seeing the lost anklet on her left arm. She called her sister, “Frexel!” Frexel ran to her room from the backyard. “Did you found my anklet?” she asked. “No I haven’t,” Frexel returned, “I do not even know that you’ve lost it.” She asked Jeoffrey, “Have you?” But Jeoffrey also said no. “Then who might have found this and put it back on my arm?” she thought to herself. She went to her favorite place one afternoon – the rock lumps and wounded the trunk of the tree rising from it with a knife. She engraved; “To whomever, Thank you.” And she rested over its shade. Night passed, she visited the rock lumps again and leaned her back comfortably on the tree. She gazed at her message and noticed something under. She read; “You’re welcome.” Then the usual siren she had heard before deafened her ears again. She ran to her room and the sound faded off. She cried and swore to herself never to visit the rock lumps again.

But the sea is haunting her dreams. She wakes up early in the morning bothered hearing the siren everyday getting louder and louder. Not until she answered the suitor who gave her the anklet. She never heard the siren again. A day before her wedding – she visited the stone as she heard the ship once more. She wanted to run but she was too curious to see an approaching yellow sparkling light. She could not only hear the siren of the ship this time – she saw the ship right in front of her eyes. She was amazed seeing it dazzling in gold. She stood up to looked at the beautifully carved letters. “CA-CARLES?” she uttered - the name of the ship. The siren echoed and the ship sailed away. The sound faded off until the ship disappeared on her sight.

Twelve years later. She was gifted with three children. One day, her third daughter went to bathe in the sea. She bathed together with her older sister. It was high tide. The waves became turbulent. Unnoticed by the elder, she dived and did not come out of the water. Bebe shouted for the help of his father, “Pa! Help! Sister is drowning!” Her father and the eldest Jolie rushed to her. Her father was miserably crying while doing resuscitation. He pumped her chest and terribly prayed while giving off air. Neighbors crowded their home. Her mother was desperately crying wiping her eyes from her tears. “Pls. stay. Pls.,” her father and mother uncontrollably continued weeping. “PLEASE!” her mother yelled in grief. “I’m so sorry,” Bebe pardoned crying while hugging her mother…

Carles is unfamiliarly known as the farthest town of Iloilo City and is located closer to Roxas City. The Higante Island locally known, as “Isla de Higante” is part of Guimaras.

… Their daughter coughed. “Thank God!” everyone’s eyes were lightened. She’s saved! Everyone rejoiced. The pale little one left a smile. And after few years – they had their fourth daughter, another beautiful girl.

The Blackout Thief

It just stopped raining. When – BLACKOUT! Emy heard someone knocked on their front door. She was washing the dishes. They just finished eating lunch. Her children went to bed. “I’m coming! Wait a second!” Emy yelled and approached the door. “May I know who’s there?” she asked but got no reply. Emy sneaked through the glass window and raised the curtain. There’s no one outside. She saw a log on the doorstep. “I see,” she thought to herself. The wind blew heavily. Her candle lit off. Emy searched her pocket for a match but she remembered leaving it on the kitchen table, so she traced back. Emy noticed that the window of their kitchen was open. “It’s just the wind,” she thought to herself and closed the window but found out later that the kitchen door was widely opened.

She affirmed to herself, someone’s lurking inside their house as of this time. Emy hurried to the room of her three children. She took her son’s wooden toy horse then got out and locked her children’s room. She walked slowly down the stairs hearing the sink on the kitchen dripping water. The water dripping sounded off. Emy went to the kitchen. But there was no one. She turned back to her room. After awhile, Emy heard the door of her children’s room opened. She hurried to see her children. Erid the youngest was not there. She asked Nisa, “Where’s Erid?” “He’s thirsty. He went to the kitchen to drink water,” Nisa answered. “Lock the door!” she went to the kitchen. A person’s shadow passed by Erid. “Oh my God!” she exclaimed. “Mom! Why are you…?” Emy shut her son’s mouth. “Ssshhh! Somebody’s inside our house!” she whispered to her son, “Blow your candle out!” Emy panicked going back to her children’s room with Erid. Someone’s following them going back to her children’s room. Emy heard someone’s footsteps from the stair. The sound went nearer. “I’m scared!” Erid said pulling her mother’s skirt. “Wait, I got the key,” she said. It was dark but the light of the moon helped her find the key. “Go!” she exclaimed and locked the door immediately when they entranced both the room.

“Keep quiet,” she whispered to Erid. Erid hugged her mother tightly. He’s frightfully fighting his fear not to cry. Someone opened the door of the other room. The door banged – closed then someone knocked on the door. “Mom?” Nisa went off his bed, “Is someone outside?” she asked. “Ssshhh!” Emy signaled her daughter to be quiet. Nisa did so. “I’m going out,” she told her children. “No mom!” Nisa grabbed her hands. “I’ll be safe, nothing’s gonna happen to me. Just pray,” she said. “Be careful,” Nisa said. “Mom!” Erid hugged his mother tightly. “I’ll be okay, now hide!” Emy told Erid. Nisa awaken her younger sister, “Darah, wake up! Mommy wants us to hide.” Darah ignored Nisa. Nisa raised her sister and the hid under the bed. Emy took a deep breath. “I will lock the door. Never open it unless you’ll hear my voice, understood?” Emy said. “Mom, be careful!” Erid hugged her mother again. “I’ll be. Have this handy, just in case.” Emy gave Erid his wooden toy horse. “How about you?” Erid asked. “I’ll find something for my self,” she replied, “I’ll have to go now.” Erid crawled down his bed. Emy took a vase from the table. Knocking continued, “Blag! Blag! Blag…” Emy faced the door and opened it quickly. She raised the vase on air to smash the stranger when the lights came back. “STOP!!!” exclaimed her husband. Emy lost her consciousness and fell down the floor.

Frigid Part 4

Frigid and Liana kissed. Liana saw a figure standing nearby. It was foggy but she was assured it looked like a man. The wind blew heavily but the streak of something distant – an object the blurry figure was holding still captured her weary eyes. Dust around the cliff cleared. Liana hugged Frigid tightly and quickly took over his place. “Sorry,” Liana spoke and she closed her eyes. Snow poured down. Blue tried to block the arrow but she was too late. Andrade arrived and he captured Ludi. Frigid’s tears fell with the snow. Sadness stricken everyone. Ludi crazily laugh aloud. Frigid cried and shouted, “NOOOHHHHH!!!!!!!” Anger burst out of his heart. He was fierce. Frigid lowered slowly Liana and laid her down on the ground. He cleaned her face from dirt and rubbed her forehead softly while he was terribly crying. Frigid ran to Andrade and with a great force – he punched Ludi on his face. Ludi continued laughing ignoring Frigid’s attack.

“When you were still small, the Black Tragedy took place. Your mother in search for safety ran from her house to the portal leading to Earth. She threw you into the portal before she got killed. As you know, the search for your parents is now over. They’re both dead. I’ll tell you all the truth I knew, the farmer that took care of you was truly your father.” Frigid was astonished after knowing. “However, your father also did not know that you were of the same blood. That event was no coincidence. Before your father was married to Fir – he had an affair with Fria, your mother – she lives on this world. Your mother was so careless knowing that love to another human form is forbidden. She was the keeper appointed to the portal of Earth. She got curious until one day; she sneaked through it and chanced to see her first love. Her deed spread to the king and she was expelled out of her task. Sig and Fria promised to live together but it was never meant. Sig never knew that Fria was pregnant. Fria never told Sig about her condition. The king was kind-hearted after knowing everything about Fria’s actions – he never dispelled Fria out of her house and their kingdom.” Frigid continued listening.

“Sig might have waited in the forest from sunrise until the moon revealed as they have promised to meet one day. But Fria showed no presence. After two years of longing for love – Sig found Fir. He forgot everything about Fria. You were two years old when the Black Tragedy happened. It was a miracle that you passed through the portal. Maybe, your human-earth blood made you pass through it although the portal was really locked. The baby that night Fir recognized crying in the forest – was you. His house is the one nearest to the portal so Fir heard your cry.”

“Do you know Blue?” Frigid asked. “She was your mother’s sister. You gave her name Blue after when she had decided herself that time to watch over you. It is our ritual to shower a lad with dust when he reaches his fifth-tent year. The only way to do that was to curse her self as a bird and pour dust on your head and so she may enter your world unnoticed by the king. She disguised as a bird – a blue jay. That’s why you called her Blue the moment she appeared to you and you took care of her as your pet and she resided with you when she was still a bird on Earth not until you went here where she got back her original form.” “So what’s your real name? Do you remember?” Frigid asked Blue. “I am Ria and it is true – I am your mother’s sister,” she answered.

“Why is it that I could not remember a thing?” Frigid asked. “Because that was your choice,” Ludi replied, “A human being from Earth desiring to enter this world forgets everything.” “How did you know about me and my parents? Why do you know everything?” Frigid asked. “Because I was present. Fria told me everything! Because – If Fria never met Sig, we should have live together. I courted your mother but she refused to accept my love.” “I am sorry for hearing that,” Frigid said.

“I KILLED YOUR MOTHER! And I am so sorry for that…” Ludi cried and knelt down, “I really love your mother but she did not love me.” “I think I have heard enough,” Frigid said, he walked away and left the prison. He met King Leonardh outside. “Where would you prefer staying from now?” King Leonardh asked Frigid, “Earth or Lone Debris?” “Will I still remember everything when I choose Earth?” Frigid asked. “The portal is always open, it is up for you to forget,” King Leonardh escorted Frigid to the portal. Blue and Andrade preferred to stay with Frigid. “Farewell! Thank you for everything,” Frigid thanked King Leonardh. “If it’s not for you, Lone Debris would be nothing. Thank you!” King Leonardh thanked Frigid. The three stepped on the portal and Blue accompanied Frigid back home.
